![]() I’ve tried emulating the old school PC-88 version, but I don’t recommend that - this romhack is a much better experience. Pretty interesting look into an official but largely forgotten game. Super Mario Bros Special was an officially licensed Mario game made by Hudson Soft in ‘86-‘87 for the PC-88 and Sharp X1 computer systems, and had a brand new set of levels, a lack of smooth scrolling (an issue that the SMB1 romhack version removes), and really wonky sprite coloring due to those systems having more limited capabilities than the NES. There are a handful of hacks of SMB1 - like this one - that reproduce Super Mario Bros Special in the SMB1 engine. Mario & Luigi Power Blast is one I like that’s specifically dedicated to custom powerups. New Super Mario World 1: The 12 Magic Orbs and New Super Mario World 2: Around the World are pretty great. SMW has a pretty massive rom hacking community. Other than these and the others you’ve already mentioned, I’m not that familiar with too many SMB3 hacks. Super Orb Bros is a pretty new SMB3 hack with impressive custom physics, but it’s way too hard for me. I think my favorite SMB3 hack is 3Mix, which you already mentioned. ![]() No idea as to the timeline but she occasionally seems to post about it on this Facebook page. The creator of Mario Adventure is working on a new romhack of SMB3 that looks really impressive and I believe will be called Mario Adventure 3: Mushroom Mayhem. ![]()
